Far as the Curse is Found: Entry 1

Many today spend their lives in earnest pursuit to know the will of God, as we should. I have personally wondered about God’s will in my life—his purposes and how my desires meet with his overarching plan in history. I think this is normal and good for all people to wonder. While this answer may sound “cliché” to the question, What is God’s will for my life?, it is nevertheless the true answer. Answer: read His Word if you want to know His will.

How you interpret the will is always of utmost importance, and there is no shortage of opinions in this age. Let this be said: no one who receives an inheritance receives it apart from the lawyer who interprets. Our human nature—apart from Christ and the Holy Spirit—cannot interpret or be guided rightly if led by our own devices. The Light of Christ is necessary. Christ is always needed and allowed to interpret His own Words. Regardless of our own understanding and literal reading, we cannot lean on that wisdom alone (Prov. 3:5-6).

Begin your search into the will of God by delighting in His Son: Jesus delighted to do the will of the Father, so should we. The mission was clear from the start; it was unambiguous, daunting, and yet an all-consuming passion that brought Christ joy to pursue (Heb. 12:2). It was Jesus’ desire to obtain an inheritance of nations—His Bride, The Church. He came, He conquered and has tasked His Church to walk in His purchased victory. Now—not later—His new creation (like Eve) is tasked and upheld by His Spirit to do His will on earth as His will is done in Heaven. Together, the triune God and His Church are advancing His Kingdom through the power of the Gospel: The true Justice that the world needs.

Jesus prayed, “Your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven,” (Matt. 6:10)—this was, without a doubt, a prescriptive text for the disciples to pray and do when they found themselves in need of direction. Little did they know, when Jesus returned to Heaven, this directive would prove to be a comfort as well as a guiding principle to their perseverance. They were encouraged to know that Jesus ruled over all things now while they entered His harvest on the earth below (Matt. 9:37). Could there be any greater comfort and compass when they would be assaulted and persecuted for the truth on every side? Can there be any greater comfort than to know the will of God and have His favor in carrying out this will and commission? (Mark 16:15)

Just as any true map should have a compass or legend in the margins to orient the traveler; it is also of benefit and necessity for the reader to appeal to the light of Christ. Jesus is always Lord of the text and Lord of His will. See Him briefly now in these wills listed below. See them as a whole without suspending them or dividing the message of Christ’s faithfulness to accomplish this.

Isaiah 42:1-9 The 8 Wills of God govern the text

  1. He will bring forth justice to the nations. (vs. 1)
  2. He will not quarrel (vs. 2)
  3. He will not despise the weak (vs. 3)
  4. He will not quench the faintest zeal (vs. 3)
  5. He will faithfully bring forth justice (vs. 3)
  6. He will not grow faint or be discouraged till he has established justice in the earth. (vs. 4)
  7. He will take you by the hand and keep you by His righteousness (vs. 5-6)
  8. He will give you as a covenant people—as a light for the nations to set them free. (vs. 6-7)
